Formats Studio 0.5: see the plan, then watch it build
Formats Studio 0.5 is the biggest update since the first release. It starts on Home with one request box, lets you see the plan before anything is edited or spent, and brings a set of tools that used to need a compositing app: cut-outs, object removal and motion tracking, on the same timeline you and your agent share.
Start on Home
Home asks what you want to make. On the Agent side, describe the video in your own words or start from a blueprint, and add chips for a presenter, a voice or attachments. On the Quick tools side, no agent is needed: add captions, transcribe, make a voiceover, a music bed or an avatar video, or clone a voice, each in one step and each one Undo away.
See the plan first
Pick a run mode in the composer. Ask checks with you before each edit, import and spend. Plan writes the plan and the script, shows the credits it needs, and waits for Approve and build. Auto runs end to end. You can switch at any time, even mid-run, and steps that spend credits always ask first. While the agent works, the chat shows its steps in plain words, and a graphic it is still writing already holds its place on the timeline.
Tools that used to need a compositor
Cut out a person or an object with a tap, a box or a brush, and put titles behind them. Erase a sign or a passer-by and fill the gap from the frames around it. Track a point, a face, a hand or an object, attach any layer or caption to it, and blur every face in a clip. Reframe a landscape shot for vertical, zoom on clicks in a screen recording, and get smooth slow motion from frame interpolation.
A timeline built for both of you
The timeline is calmer and quicker to read: one toolbar, tabs for several videos in one project, track groups that fold, and clips that show their pictures and waveforms at every height. Markers can span a range, carry a note and ride on a clip; they can zoom in, hold a cut or start a sound, and Mark beats puts one on every beat of the music. Captions are now layers that follow their clip through trims, speed changes and cuts.
More to bring in
Import layered PSD files flattened or as layers, PDF and Illustrator pages, numbered image sequences, EXR and HDR stills, FLAC and animated PNG. Motion graphics keep their words, colours and timing editable in the Inspector, and new projects blend colour in linear light, so preview and export match.
Formats Studio 0.5 is a free update for every Mac with Apple silicon. It installs itself on restart, or download it from formats.app.
